An animal spirit is a nonphysical connection to an animal — often tied to your family line going back generations — that shows up through your inner sense, dreams, or feeling rather than something you see with your physical eyes. No matter where you were born on this earth, you have a connection to at least one. That's not just a feeling I have — it's backed up by archaeological research, if you go looking for it.
So what does that actually mean? We already understand relationships with real, physical animals — most of us have pets, or know farmers, or just love animals in general. It's a natural thing. So it's not such a stretch to consider that we can also have a relationship with the nonphysical form of an animal's spirit.
Here's an everyday example: say you had a cat you loved for years, and that cat eventually passes away. You might find yourself visited by that cat's spirit afterward. That's a small taste of what I'm pointing to.
But the deeper version — the one I really want to introduce — isn't about a household pet, although sometimes it shows up that way too. I'm talking about something much older. You might have an animal spirit tied specifically to your family line, one going back not just generations but thousands of years. Ancient, ancient, ancient connections. And it might not be just one — there could be several.
These spirits aren't always obvious in everyday life. You won't necessarily notice them while you're making breakfast or going about your morning. But they're there, and they matter. If this resonates, sit with the idea that there's an animal spirit out there that may already feel akin to you — and when you're ready, the guided shamanic journey is the next step to actually meet it.
